Startup Riot 2010 - Presenting 50 Atlanta Startups
NetParty will be attending (and perhaps presenting) at Startup Riot on February 17 and we wanted to let you know about this unique one-day conference in Atlanta.
During the course of the day, fifty entrepreneurs take the stage at the Fox Theatre’s Egyptian Ballroom and present, in 3 minutes and 4 slides, their startups. The day then concludes with a fun afterparty.
All of the attendees are pre-screened and they’ve lined up a great keynote speaker (Bo Peabody, former co-founder of Tripod.com and author of “Lucky or Smart?”) as well as some great press attendees like Robert Scoble (aka “http://twitter.com/scobleizer“).
Startup Riot is currently taking applications to both attend and present and it’s free to do both. Here are the links:

We look forward to seeing you there!
Seeking Event Directors and Welcoming a New One
We’re excited to announce the hiring of Cortney DeArmond as our new Chicago Event Director. Cortney is already planning a full slate of NetParty Chicago events for 2010.
We are actively hiring Event Directors in most of our NetParty cities. The Event Director is the “face” of NetParty in their city and we believe it can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the right person, a self-starter who can handle much responsibility and demonstrate great initiative.
An Event Director is responsible for planning and managing our NetParty events from start-to-finish including finding and making deals with the best local venues, hiring and managing event staff, assisting us with the marketing and publicity of the event, managing our social media presence, and more. We expect that the job will require 5-10 hours per week.
- Keeping up-to-date on the latest and greatest event venues
- Negotiating with the venue to obtain the best benefits (drink specials, hors d’oeuvres, etc) for our members
- Recruiting, hiring, and training event personnel
- Writing the description for the event
- Promoting the event online and offline
- Managing our local presence on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media services
- Finding and securing local event sponsorships (if sales are not your strong suit but event planning and marketing is, we would still love to talk to you)
- Have great enthusiasm for the business/social networking space!
- Be a leader who can exercise control at an event, while handling any problems that arise with diplomacy and grace
- Be a strong negotiator
- Be polite and possess strong customer service skills
- Be “in-the-know” with regard to local nightlife and the new, hot, “in” places
- Have an interest in event marketing (we will train you)
- Demonstrate strong writing skills
Sound interesting? We’d love to hear from you at jobs@netparty.com.
NetParty Welcomes Kristen

A new member has been joined our small team. We welcome Kristen Kos as our Social Media Queen responsible for helping you connect with other NetParty members on Facebook, LinkedIn, MeetUp, MySpace and wherever Web 2.0 may lead.
Kristen has helped established local groups in each NetParty city (see the links on our invididual city pages, for example: http://atlanta.netparty.com) and national groups, as well.
Check out NetParty Nation on Facebook and LinkedIn and, of course, be sure to follow our hair-raising, thrill-a-minute adventures on Twitter.
San Diego Launch Party Photos Posted
Thanks to the over 400 young professionals who join us at -1 Lounge for our San Diego Launch Party. All the photos from the event have been posted. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
What Happens in Las Vegas Actually Probably Doesn’t Stay in Las Vegas
Because if our experience means anything, people in Vegas like to spread the word!
We are currently planning our Las Vegas Launch Party which will be held in November. Although we posted some general information about the event on this website, we’ve yet to email or tell even a single Las Vegas NetParty member or Vegas resident about the event. Not one. Yet - we already have more than 200 RSVPs! Guess that means we’ll have a “full house.”

NetParty San Diego Free Launch Party

We are excited to be launching in San Diego at both the Minus 1 Ultra Lounge and the MerK restaurant at San Diego’s most fashionable boutique hotel, The Keating on Wednesday, October 29.
We are expecting over 500 young professionals to join us! I’m also personally looking forward to catching up with DJ Scott Saunders who was our long-time DJ in Atlanta and has since moved to even sunnier climes. All the details are here.
If you are in San Diego, please join our new NetParty San Diego Facebook Group. We look forward to seeing you on the 29th!
Who do I look like? Gordon Barnes?
He’s no Gordon Barnes, either.
Growing up, Gordon Barnes was the meteorologist on the local news radio station. Actually he was a bit before my time (ok, not the time I was born but the time I became somewhat conscious) but he was my father’s favorite weatherman. Whenever I would ask my father something like “is it supposed to be hot today,” he always had his stock answer: “Who do I look like? Gordon Barnes?”
Anyhow, as it turns out, my father doesn’t look like Gordon Barnes and, apparently, neither do I. I sent out an email to our Atlanta list yesterday boldy proclaiming in the subject line that it would be “Sunny and 75″ for our roofdeck event this evening. I based that on weather.com which was my first mistake. Instead, it’s dark, cool, and foreboding. But our event is indoors as well as outdoors so hopefully we’ll still get a great turnout for our first Atlanta event in some time. And although I’m no Gordon Barnes, I’m still predicting the sun will make a cameo appearance.
Update: No sun but over 300 people attended - thanks!
Welcome!
Welcome to The NetParty Blog!
I’d love to keep you posted on all of NetParty’s new developments and to let you ride along on our small company’s cross-country tour (we recently launched in Boston and Chicago and have launch events in San Diego and Las Vegas on the horizon) and soon to be cross-Atlantic networking caravan!
I’d also like to share with you our plans to launch NetParty Nation, our means of connecting our offline business and social networking events with the online world, in first quarter 2009.
But, more than that, I’d love to share a dialogue with you. Maybe I can tell you what happened behind-the-scenes at a particular event (working with nightclubs is never dull) or you can tell us how we can improve our events or what features you would like to see in NetParty 2.0 (more information on that in future posts).
In the interest of not taking “modern narcissism to a new, supermetabolic extreme” (see Clive Thompson’s thought-provoking article about social networking and social media “Brave New World of Digital Intimacy” in Sunday’s New York Times Magazine), I’m hopeful that I can make this blog as much about you as about us. But if you just can’t get enough of our heart-stopping exploits, we’d love to have you follow us on Twitter, as well (www.twitter.com/netparty).
Looking forward to a little back and forth with you and to seeing you at our events …
